When planning your romantic getaways on Christmas, it’s important to remember these points.
1. Book now
If you haven’t booked your tickets already, things aren’t going to get cheaper. I advise you look quickly for available deals and book now.
2. Book early
Book your tickets early in the day. The earlier you fly, the less likely it is that you’ll find yourself delayed. With the extra business and stress that Christmas travel creates, you’ll find that flights early in the day are less likely to suffer from a domino effect of delays.
3. Pack light
Pack everything you need into your carry-on bags. This saves you a multitude of pain: you can check-on online, avoiding queues; you don’t need to wait for your bags to be unloaded; and there is no chance of the airline sending your bags to the wrong airport. Make sure you understand the size and weight requirements of all your flights and also the security requirements. Posting your gifts ahead of time can help with this.
4. Be security smart
There are going to be major delays in airport security lines over Christmas. You can play your part by understanding the needs of your airport (it changes by airport and country) and find out what you need to:
a) Avoid packing
b) Take out of your bag for scanning
c) Clothing that needs to be removed, like jackets, shoes and belts.
Make sure you’re preparing for the scan while you’re in the line… not when you’re at the front of it.
5. Travel strangely
It’s true that that days leading up to and following the major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and Day) are terrible for flying, but flying on the day itself can be surprisingly pleasant. Likewise, flying a week earlier or a week later can save you plenty of stress, and a fair chunk of change.
